View Here : Car Battery Voltage
The ideal car battery voltage range will provide you with a relevant interval according to which you can measure precisely what the voltage says about the battery’s current charge. A perfect voltage (without any devices or electronic systems plugged in) is between 13.7 and 14.7V.
Car battery voltage. A fully charged car battery has 12.6 volts. There is a very big difference when a car battery drops even a small amount of voltage. When a car drops, for instance, from 12.6 to 12.0, there will be 75% difference. Its power drops from 100% to 25%. At 12.4 volts, a car battery is 75% charged while at 12.2 volts its 50% charged.
Fully charged automotive batteries should measure at 12.6 volts or above. When the engine is running, this measurement should be 13.7 to 14.7 volts. If you don’t have a multimeter to tell you the voltage of your battery, you can do a test of your electrical system by starting the car and turning on the headlights.
Then the leads are connected to the battery terminals, positive to positive and negative to negative to get the voltage. A reading of 12.65-12.77 volts means your battery has a full charge. 12.45-12.54 volts means you have a 75% charge, 12.24-12.29 is 50% charged, and 11.99-12.06 volts is 25% charged.
Hook up a voltmeter to the car's battery by connecting the red lead to the positive terminal and the black lead to the negative terminal. If the battery is in good condition, the voltage will read between 12.4 and 12.7 volts. A reading lower than 12.4 volts means your battery needs to be charged.
Assuming we're talking about the `usual' 12 volt car battery' the resting voltage should be around 11 to 11.5 volts. Under charge it's as high as 15 volts as supplied from the alternator, and most cars won't start if the voltage is under 10.5 to 11.5 volts. The term `12 volt battery' is what's...
Automotive battery. Battery electric vehicles are powered by a high-voltage electric vehicle battery, but they usually have an automotive battery as well, so that they can use standard automotive accessories which are designed to run on 12 V.
